Maritime Data & Voyage Optimization

As Director of Data Science at Auerbach Schifffahrt, I built the foundation for data-driven decision making in a traditional shipping company.

The first challenge was data integration: shipping generates vast amounts of heterogeneous data. Financial records, operational logs, real-time ship sensor data, and market prices. I designed and deployed a centralized data platform on Azure to ingest, aggregate, and make this data accessible for analysis.

With the data infrastructure in place, I developed mathematical models for core business decisions: voyage optimization (which routes maximize profit given fuel costs, port fees, and cargo rates), ship deal pricing (what's a vessel worth given market conditions), and financial forecasting.

I also defined the roadmap for future data science initiatives and secured a six-figure research grant with BSFZ approval for sensor data collection and route optimization research. On the organizational side, I managed a team of implementation consultants and coordinated the rollout of a new ERP system.
